On average, most folks are going to spend at least eight hours of their day – five times a week – at the office.
Now, there isn’t a single person on the planet that actually puts in a full eight hours of efficient and productive work without any interruption, without any slack, and without any breaks.
It just isn’t humanly possible, and no matter how hard or committed someone tries to make this happen it’s a surefire recipe for burnout – and all it takes is one person dropping by your office or your desk to talk to you for three minutes about the latest episode of Survivor to throw your full eight hours of efficient and productive work right out of the window.
At the same time, there is also a world of difference between those that embrace healthy habits to help make them become as efficient as possible while at work and those that just kind of pushed through the grind, getting chewed up along the way, and producing subpar work because of it.
If you want to really try and produce at the highest possible level (and create the financial future of your dreams) you’ll want to start to implement these healthy habits to turn your productivity switch to the maximum level!
Get plenty of high quality sleep
More than 40% of people in America are getting a lot less than seven hours of sleep every single night, and those that do get at least seven hours of sleep already getting seven solid hours of high quality sleep – and boy does it show!
The odds are pretty good that you haven’t upgraded (or even replaced) your bed and your mattress in a long time, even though these kinds of purchases need to be replaced every 4 to 7 years. This is the first step in getting a better quality of sleep, but you’ll also want to shut down your screens 30 minutes before you go to bed, keep the temperature in your bedroom cool, and possibly play a bit of white noise in the background to send you to The Sandman as quickly as possible.
A more rested individual is a more productive individual. There’s no denying that.
Upgrade your office chair
We all live more and more sedentary lifestyles, and most of us are chained to our office desks and planted in our office chairs for a pretty significant chunk of that eight hours we spend at the office.
At the same time, our office chairs are literally killing us – yes, killing us – and we don’t even realize it. People are complaining of back problems, people are complaining of health issues, and people are becoming more sluggish and much more overweight and a lot of it has to do with the fact that they are sitting in chairs that are crippling them.
Not only do you want to upgrade your office chair ASAP – definitely to something much more ergonomic – but you also want to consider getting up out of your chair for at least five or six minutes every hour to stretch, to relax, and to get your body a little more limber.
Some studies suggest that sitting in a chair for eight hours or more every day is actually more dangerous to your long-term health than smoking a pack of cigarettes every day. Think about that the next time that you cozy up to an office chair you absolutely hate.
